About SSMA Courses University of Siena Room & Board/Audition Artist Faculty Application Request Form

SSMA, in cooperation with the Ministry of
Advanced Education of Siena, and American
Universities and Colleges, again offers seminars and
concerts in Tuscany, Italy in 2009. The program is
open to graduates, undergraduates, teachers,
professionals, and qualified visitors, 19 years of age
and above.

Courses available: (Graduate/Undergraduate)
$455.00 per 3 point course (minimum participation -
2 courses; maximum participation - 4 courses.)

PERFORMANCE PRACTICE
(all periods) - Coaching in Solos, small/large
chambers ensembles - all instruments and all voices
in concerts including: Composition - Conducting,
String Orch. Chamb. Orch./Chorus.
Early music performance.
Organ - Antique and modern organs, performance.

INDEPENDENT STUDIES - arranged with director.

MUSIC-ART, Travel-Study (Extensive history
background not necessary). Museums, lectures
on location.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE - (3 levels) SSMA/UN
Siena, Stra.

ALL PARTICIPANTS, in addition to music
courses, may attend courses in Italian culture, beginning, intermediate or advanced, at SSMA - University of Siena-Stra., for credit, in-service
or non-credit and certificate.

SIENA is an elegant medieval city in the mountains of North Central Italy, approximately 30 miles south of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany, birthplace of The Renaissance. Both are considered among the most important arts endowed cities of the world.

SSMA: Is a summer study abroad music performance program. SSMA offers coaching in performance practice by a well known artist-faculty from leading American and Italian Universities in strings, woodwinds, brass, guitar, piano, voice and composition.

SSMA provides opportunities to perform vocal and
instrumental music in formal and informal concert settings in various towns in Tuscany.

Composers and conductors may supervise rehearsals and conduct performances of music in concerts given by the program.

Special lectures by well-known guest artists are scheduled. Courses in Italian are given by University Professors.

Music - Art - Society - Civilization classes are given on location when applicable.

Trips to places of great interest such as Rome, Venice, Assisi, Pisa and Florence are enjoyed.

Meals at typical restaurants,

A possible Puccini opera performance at his Villa

A 3day concert/culture trip to Switzerland is optional.
